In 2015 the Noravank Foundation’s activities were mainly focused on national security, security of the Armenian community and information security, based on interdisciplinary approaches.

National Security

  • Concepts were developed on global spread of extremism under multipolar realities, in which the role of think tanks is emphasized in the strategic context of “soft power.” These concepts were localized for the Republic of Armenia (RoA) and Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) security. An analytical digest in two books on the RoA and regional think tanks was published in joint efforts with the ASUE Amberd Research Center.
General concepts on the spread of extremism have been recognized by relevant stakeholders. An invitation from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was received to participate in the Fifth Moscow Conference on International Security, while the article was chosen as a the winner of the Rhodes Forum Scientific Marathon in the World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations” and later was republished in a scientific journal in the Russian Federation.
  • A monitoring of military and political developments in the region was and is conducted, based on the results of which an analytical yearbook will be published.

Security of the Armenian Community

  • A concept of an online Armenia-Diaspora University (ADU) was developed based on a research (published in 12 pieces) implemented by the Centre for Armenian Studies regarding the potential of Diaspora. Participation of 600 Armenian Diaspora specialists is planned in this. The possible topics to be presented in the ADU format have been tested in 20 lectures organized by the Educational Centre.
  • Concept on organizing the Armenian community were developed and presented in a format of official memorandum to the RoA Ministry of Diaspora.
  • In the context of the concept “History as a critical infrastructure” developed by Noravank Foundation, a research of the processes that occurred in the Second Republic in relation to the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was conducted, which was then published as a separate book.
  • In the context of security of the Armenian community studies were and are implemented on the current situation of the Armenian community in Ukraine.

Information Security

  • Given that currently there is no educational course of Information Security in Armenia, a process to start such course was launched in cooperation with the RoA Ministry of Education and Science, and State Committee for Science. About 15 experts are involved in the process, including several from abroad. In 2015 about 40% of the work was accomplished, and in 2016 it is planned to complete the content of the course and publish a manual in 2017.
  • A content-analysis of ideologems used in the information space of RoA has been implemented.
