PERCEPTION OF THE SOCIAL ORDER AND CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS IN ARMENIA

Samvel Manukyan

Resume

The social science knowledge in the Armenian society is low: about 94% is not aware of the modern social order’s essence, driving force and nature, development patterns and main causes for conflicts. Due to this the Armenian society is an easy target for various political and social manipulations, especially in the current conditions of modern manipulative technologies.

STATEHOOD AND IDENTITY: THE STRUCTURE OF THE ARMENIAN IDENTITY IN DIASPORA IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Vahram Hovyan

Resume

The traditional elements of the Armenian identity had consistently regressed in the Diaspora. Currently, they are no longer sufficient to preserve Armenian identity in the Diaspora. Therefore, there is an imperative of new approaches that would enrich the traditional elements of the Armenian identity with new cornerstones and offer new principles of identity building. In the 21st century the decentralized/horizontal structure of the Diaspora Armenian identity needs to be replaced with a centralized/vertical structure focused on the powerful nation-state. The ideology of repatriation would stem from that followed by language, religion, culture and historical memory.

INFORMATION INFLUENCE OPERATIONS

Armen Ghalechyan

Resume

Today's world is seriously preparing to address the upcoming new impacts (actions). Through the effects of the influence operations, we are controlled more and deeper than it seems to us. The influence actions are classified as a form of soft operation carried out in special ways and means, and is spread over time. Such operation is a wellthought and planned system of actions that involves a large number of people and structures. Unfortunately, most of its impacts are hidden, their activities are discovered very late and their practical application is unknown to us at all.

THE PROCESSES OF CONSOLIDATION IN THE ECONOMY AND THE ISSUES OF COMPETITION PROTECTION AUTHORITIES

Arman Manaseryan

Resume

The economy based on market relations is usually characterized by the presence of large companies. In general, the emergence of large companies in the economy should not be seen as a negative phenomenon on the part of the state and society, despite the fact that the incomes of small and medium-sized businesses can be reduced and problems with the employment of the population might emerge. The processes of consolidation in the economy are the result of competition and artificial restraint (instruments of taxation, licensing mechanisms, etc.) may lead to a decrease in economic efficiency and competitiveness. From the viewpoint of control over the processes of consolidation in the economy, effective control can be exercised by the competition authorities aimed at prohibiting transactions in cases of unfair competition. The article discusses the risks arising from the consolidation in commodity markets and, in this regard, the functions of competition authorities in Armenia and other countries.

Gayane Harutyunyan

Resume

The territory of the Republic of Armenia is characterized by seismic activity, which implies high probability of seismic events and natural disasters. In such situation the government must be always ready to manage disaster risks in a correct and timely manner. This implies risk evaluation, mitigation and prevention.

The problem is reviewed from the viewpoint of insurance as a primary tool for risk mitigation or prevention. It is determined whether there are preconditions favorable for introduction of environmental risks insurance system in Armenia. From this perspective not only the laws and regulations pertinent to environmental risk management and insurance are studied, but also the programs and projects that contribute to development of such system.

SALAFISM/WAHHABISM IN AZERBAIJAN

Gayane Chobanyan

Resume

After Azerbaijan gained independence, foreign charity organizations and international terrorist Islamist groups were established in the country with the support of Azerbaijan's authorities. In order to gain political influence on Azerbaijan they have used the “soft power” of Islamic ideology by expanding the teachings of Salafism/Wahhabism to Azerbaijan. After some time these groups have moved their activities from the socio-economic sector to the political arena. Today Azerbaijan faces a threat of the possible formation of not only moderate Islamic opposition, but also terrorist groups. Out of political considerations “non-traditional” Islamic institutions are qualified as deconstructive, radical, terrorist or “Wahhabi” structures by the government of Azerbaijan. A situation has developed in the country when any anti-governmental or socio-economic protests are considered illegal activities of radical Islamist structures whose aim is to destroy Azerbaijan’s secular basis. Militant groups of “international jihad” that have set up in Azerbaijan since the beginning of Artsakh war, create serious dangers for the government of Azerbaijan. In the future they can have destructive factor both for domestic and regional balance.
