TWO NEW CHEMICAL ELEMENT IN THE PERIODIC TABLE WILL BE NAMED IN HONOR OF THE MOSCOW REGION AND ACADEMICIAN YURI HOVHANNISYAN

International Union of pure and applied chemistry (IUPAC) announced on introduction of four new chemical elements in the periodic table. Two of them will be named in honor of the U.S. state of Tennessee and Japan, and two more got their names because of the scientific Institute in Dubna near Moscow and a scientist of Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Oganessian.

“The discoverers suggested the name “nichani” and the symbol for the element Nh 113, “Muscovy” and the Mc symbol for element 115, “tennessen” and Ts the symbol for the element 117 and “ohansson” and Og the symbol for the element 118. Department of inorganic chemistry IUPAC has considered these proposals and recommended them for adoption,” the message reads.

The organization explained that the names associated with the history of discovery of elements 113, 115, 117 and 118. So, the name “nichani” refers to Japan, where was opened the item. “Muscovy” refers to the Moscow region, where is located the joint Institute for nuclear research in Dubna.

In the U.S. state of Tennessee also operates a laboratory where the chemical opening. The fourth element was proposed to be named after Soviet and Russian scientist, specialist in the field of experimental nuclear physics Yuri Tsolakovich Oganesyan.

“We are extremely pleased that particular point on the map and names of countries, cities and scientists will be reflected in the titles of these four elements. Although someone may think such names are a sign of excessive narcissism, they completely satisfied us in terms of the rules of the IUPAC,” – said the official predstvitel Union Jan REDYK.

According to him, the names of the new items already endorsed by the leadership of IUPAC, however, they will be officially named now, but only in November this year, when Union recommendations for names of elements officially published in the journal Pure and Applied Chemistry, after a public discussion of the proposals of the Union.
